Madeira east island tour

Enjoy a traditional meal for lunch, stop for souvenirs in Santana, visit Madeira’s first capital city, and marvel at picturesque views of the Red Cliffs—all on one affordable, family-friendly tour.
The ride to the east side (Santana) starts with pick-up at the hotel, departing to Pico do Areeiro at 1,818 meters altitude. On the way up we make some stops to glimpse the landscape and to take photos.
At the top, there is an opportunity to explore the 360-degree view and see the various peaks of Madeira Island, including the Pico Ruivo with 1,862 meters of altitude.
After the stop at Pico do Areeiro, we descend to the deep and popular valley of Ribeiro Frio where the trout ponds are sighted and where it is possible to walk along the trail to the Miradouro dos Balcões. Stop at a local bar for coffee and toilets.
Following the ride through the mountains and valleys passing through several villages such as Cruzinhas and Fajã da Murta following on the road outside Cova da Roda overlooking Penha d’Aguia mountain.
Lunch will be served at the Cortado restaurant (tuck into a delicious three-course lunch at a local restaurant (10€ extra per person)). Afterward, a visit to the typical houses of Santana with time to shopping for souvenirs.
Continuing the tour, the stop is at the Guindaste Viewpoint by the sea overlooking the cliff of Penha d’Aguia. Already in the village of Porto da Cruz includes a visit to the historical Company of the Engenhos do Norte that allows knowing a living testimony of the production of sugar cane brandy and also to the House of the Rum where one can taste several rums.
The last stop is the Ponta do Rosto Viewpoint, in Caniçal, north of Ponta de São Lourenço. From this viewpoint, we can see both the north coast, as well as the south coast of Madeira Island. On clear days we can also see the island of Porto Santo. After this stop, we returned to the hotel.
